Google Desktop Search - Update

Google today announced the final 1.0 release of their Google Desktop Search software, complete with a more comprehensive list of searchable document types - including FireFox web history, PDF, and multimedia files such as images, video and music - as well as a new published API, allowing savvy developers to roll their own extensions to the service.

The updates to the product’s already impressive feature-set are on target to the recommendations that I and other GDS reviewers and the litany of GDS users have made. It’s wonderful to see a mega-corporation such as Google actually listening to both their users and the press. Kudos to Google on both the excellent free product as well as their ability to distill the myriad suggestions coming in from outside the company into their offerings.

I’ll be posting a link to this update on my ADT review of Google Desktop Search as well.
